Crazy for Daisies

She suddenly swiped the dripping can my way, showering me with thick sticky drops of beer-laced red energy drink. That got my attention—and it got me to stop laughing at her to boot!

"What the FU—?!" I snarled as I shot off the sofa and spread my arms while I look down my body and see my black A-shirt, my arms, my legs, and my boxers are dripping with the sticky red stuff. I reek of stale beer and energy drink. We both do. "What the FUCK did you do that for?!"

Now it's her turn to laugh, and she does it with gusto. "Serves you right for being an uncompassionate ass!" she laughed tauntingly. "Hah!" She pointed at me. "You're not laughing anymore, are you?"

Nope. I wasn't. I wasn't the least bit amused. "That's not cool, Daisy. Not cool at all," I told her, shaking my head while I tried to keep my temper in check.

She saw it and quit her laughing. Her smile faded as she looked at my disgruntled face and she knew she'd gone too far this time. I averted my eyes, unable to look at her because at that moment I really, really wanted to throttle her. She must've sensed it.

"I'm sorry, okay?" she apologized with a contrite tone.

"Yeah," I said. "Whatever."

"No, Des," she said. "I mean it. I'm sorry."

"Like I said," I told her as I plucked the A-shirt from my skin and made a face. "Whatever." Damn! That stuff had gone straight though the cotton and it had drenched my skin. It felt horrible. I wasn't feeling all too well as it was, but this just made it worse. "Well, now you're just gonna have to go to that recycle center all by your lonesome. I'm having a long hot shower," I said as I turned to put deed to word.

"What?!" she cried as she stared after me with those disarming brown eyes. "But I can't carry all those heavy bags by myself! And I certainly can't get behind the wheel reeking like I'd fallen asleep on the floor of a cheap bar! What if the police pull me over? We've got a zero-tolerance policy in this state, Des, and I can't afford the ten thousand dollar fine OR the loss of my driver's license!"

"Yeah, well, should've thought about that before you started tossing energy drink and beer all over the place," I said uncharitably.

"I promise I'll clean everything up," she offered with eyes like a hurt doe.

"Oh yeah, you will," I said, but with less bite. "And don't think you can use those doe's eyes on me, Daisy."

"What?" Her face wrinkled up in confusion. "Doe's eyes?"

"Whatever. You're on your own," I told her as I moved to head for my bathroom.

"But I need to clean up first. I can't go like this!" she said, spreading her free hand down her length. "And I need to wash these things out in that tiny mobile washer you've got stashed under your kitchen sink. I hope you didn't forget to get unscented environmentally-safe detergent?"

"Do whatever you wanna do, Daisy," I said as I tugged the A-shirt out of my boxer-briefs. I crossed my arms in front of me before I took the hem. I bent over and peeled the soaked and stinky A-shirt from my body and over my head with a sigh of relief. "I'm going to have a long, hot, water-wasting shower."

"Can I join you?"

Something in her tone made me pause. I turned to look at her just in time to see her unhook the shoulder straps to her overalls. Then my mouth went dry as I froze on the spot when, much to my shock, I watched as my twin sister calmly undressed right there in my living room.

Desmond "Des" Erickson and his beautiful sister, Daisy, are twins, but they couldn't be more different from one another. One Earth Day, when she has finally had enough of her twin brother's calamitous lifestyle, she helps him change how he sees himself, her, and the Earth in ways he, in his wildest dreams, could have never imagined.
